Improving My Foot Comfort

I was a kid when I first noticed my foot problems. It felt like I was always struggling with my walking, and I could tell that my feet were a little unstable. However, a friend of mine recommended a great podiatrist when I was young, and it made a huge difference. The podiatrist inspected my feet, fitted me with custom orthotics, and really made things feel a lot better. This blog is all about improving your foot comfort, so that you can exercise, play with your kids, and enjoy your life in a new way. Check out this blog for more information.

Pros And Cons Of Treating Your Bunions Surgically

Holly Mitchell

Bunions can be a nuisance to live with. Not only do they cause pain and discomfort, but they can make it hard to find fitting shoes. There's a wide range of treatment options available, and everyone has different needs in that regard. Surgery is one option, and it works well for many people with bunions, but not for all. Here are some pros and cons to consider if you're thinking of bunion surgery.

Pro: It's a near-permanent fix

Some people do develop bunions again after surgery, but this is quite rare. Most people who have bunion surgery never have to think or worry about bunions again. This is different from most other bunion treatment procedures, which minimize the symptoms for a while but are not a permanent fix. If you want to bring your bunion struggles to an end, surgery is the way to go.

Con: It has a pretty long healing period

Bunion surgery is a rather intensive surgery. It involves modifications to your bones and ligaments. Because of this, the healing phase can be fairly long and intense. You will have to stay off your feet for a few weeks, and probably wear a protective boot for a few weeks after that. You'll need follow-up visits, pain relief medications, and perhaps some physical therapy as you recover, too.

Pro: It improves your self-confidence and appearance

Most other bunion treatment options are focused on relieving the symptoms and keeping bunions from getting worse. But even with this treatment, your feet will look like they have bunions. Bunion surgery will fix this. Your feet probably won't look exactly like they did before bunions, and they may have some scars, but your feet will look far more normal and usual after bunion surgery. You'll be able to wear sandals with confidence and not worry about people staring at your feet.

Con: It can be costly

Bunion surgery is sometimes covered by health insurance and sometimes not. Some insurance companies may consider it to be a cosmetic procedure while they don't cover cosmetic procedures. If your insurance won't cover bunion surgery, then you'll need to get a quote and figure out whether or not you can afford it.

Consider the pros and cons above as you decide whether bunion surgery is a smart choice for you. Treating bunions surgically is often a wise choice, but there are some downsides to keep in mind along the way.
